The senior pupils were introduced to the world of computer coding today as Ms Tighe hosted the first after-school Coding & App Development Club. Over the next 4 weeks the pupils will each design & create their own Class Revision App, which will take the form of a weekly quiz that the kids can then swap & use to test each other on subjects covered in general classes during the week. The pupils will use & learn about HTML, CSS & Javascript. Technology is becoming increasingly integrated into our everyday lives & yet very few of us understand the language that makes computers work. A number of countries, including the UK, have recently introduced coding to their national curriculum & it’s really only a matter of time before something similar is brought in here. Ms. Tighe aims to give the pupils a fun head-start & the confidence & skills to pursue the subject further if they wish. “In fifteen years we’ll be teaching programming just like reading & writing…and wondering why we didn’t do it sooner.” Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook.
