Welcome Back

February 21, 2022

We are delighted to welcome back our pupils to Culfadda National School for the new school year.

Dear Parents, You are welcome to a new school year. I hope you all had a very happy summer & you are now ready for the school year ahead! There will be a school meeting for all parents & guardians on Monday, September 15th at 8 pm. This is a chance to meet the teachers who will outline their plans for the coming year & what they expect from your child. Please note there will be no Parent-Teacher meeting until after the mid-term so it is vital to attend for your child’s sake. Ms Tighe will also give a brief presentation on internet safety & the children’s use of social media sites. As parents, you play a key role in the success of our school. The fostering of a positive attitude with regards to education, homework and discipline is vitally important for our children. We are partners in their education. I ask for your continuing support and co-operation. We have so many amazing projects & events planned for the children this year to enhance their education & extend their knowledge including: • Class Music Lessons from Music Generation Sligo, an initiative co-funded by rock band, U2. We welcome back Mr Flaherty on Tuesdays for Traditional Music Lessons & Tin Whistle. • A new musical instrument loan scheme will be introduced. The children can borrow musical instruments from the school for use in outside music lessons to allow them to try a new instrument without their parents having to purchase it. Instruments available for loan include accordion, guitar & fiddle. • The Senior Classes will take place in an Athletics Fest in Sligo in the beginning of October & a Rugby Blitz later in the month. • Ms Tighe will hold an ‘Introduction to Basic Coding & App Development’ in an after-school class for Seniors in October. • The pupils will have swimming lessons in November & December. • Seasonal fruit is provided for free on Thursdays & Fridays as a nutritious snack & to encourage the children to try new foods & make healthy food choices. • Our connection with our Comenius School partners will continue with lots of interactive projects & the teachers from the participating countries will visit our school in March. We wish staff, pupils & families a happy & safe new school year!
